Medicare Part A covers the cost of skilled care in a Skilled Nursing facility for a limited time. The Medicare benefit covers 100% of the cost of skilled care for up to the first 20 days.
If skilled care is still required for 21-100 days (or any portion thereof), there is a daily coinsurance payment. (Medigap Coverage or Long-Term Care insurance may be able to cover this.)
Medigap insurance, which is sold through private insurance companies, helps pay for costs that Medicare doesn’t cover, such as co-pays and deductibles.
Long-Term Care insurance can help pay for nursing home care. This insurance may also cover the cost of in-home care, adult day care, assisted living and services provided in continuing care communities. The amount of coverage and the eligibility requirements may differ. If your loved one has a policy, read it carefully.
One's life journey has had its "speed bumps, traffic jams" etc. My most recent such hurdle came just over a year ago...ten days after moving into CVOC! An unplanned hip joint separation put me in the hospital for a few days! Thanks to the efficiency of the CVOC Nursing/Medical/Social Services staff I was transferred to Pilgrim Manor where I was cared for and immediately met the Rehab Services staff. Daily sessions in both Occupational and Physical therapy were a challenge but proved their worth before long. Not only were the exercises and activities essential, they all happened in an atmosphere of deep caring, support, encouragement, and humor! It seemed we all were determined to work as a team and so we did. After 3 1/2 weeks, I returned to my apartment with a walker, a list of precautions, and occasional home health aides for a bit. As the year went on I graduated from the walker, to a cane, to walking on my own...but with careful attention to the challenges of the aging process...and with each new day, a grateful appreciation for the professional skills, positive and caring attitudes, and friendliness expressed by all at CVOC.
After my stroke I came to Pilgrim Manor at Covenant Village of Cromwell for rehabilitation. I received excellent care from both the Nurses and Nurses Aide's. As a retired RN I know what a difficult job they have. The friendliness and concern from the staff really helped my recovery. Therapy staff were knowledgeable and kind. The atmosphere throughout the facility was positive and the food was nutritious and tasty. I am very thankful to all of the staff that I am home again living independently and enjoying each day.
The year 2014 has been an eventful one for me and my wife Gloria. I was a resident for several weeks at Pilgrim Manor Care following a fall at home. I received the best of care while recovering. The therapy and nursing staff were wonderful and I was able to return to my home. My wife Gloria was a resident of Pilgrim Manor this year as well. Gloria was the recipient of loving and compassionate care by all the staff of which I am so grateful. I heartily recommend Pilgrim Manor.
Our Mother is a resident of Pilgrim Manor (Gardenview Unit) at Covenant Village in Cromwell, CT. She has resided there for approximately one year. It was a very smooth transfer at a very difficult time. It is a pleasure dealing with the business office, and the nursing staff, recreational dept., and nurse's aides are all extremely compassionate and caring. Our Mother always comments on how the surroundings are very clean and beautiful.
My sister has worked in the Laurelview Unit for 20 years as an LPN. We are both extremely pleased with the care extended to our Mother.
